Heanor turned over on Town Ground

An overall disappointing weekend for Heanor Town FC saw the Lions suffer a 3-0 home defeat to title favourites Shaw Lane Aquaforce FC.
Kieran Debrouwer and Marc Strzyzewski both pulled out of the squad early on Saturday morning due to injury, it is fair to say that both players were missed but that is no discredit to the side that featured against a very good Aquaforce side.
Sam Jones, arguably the most creative player on the pitch, fired a warning shot to Shaw Lane within the first minute. Unfortunately his twenty five yard pile driver free kick only succeeded in cracking the advertising board next to the goal rather than nestling in the back of the net.
Shaw Lane instantly showed their mentality, forcing Ian Deakin into a twelfth minute fingertip save on to the post, the referee chose to ignore some over physical attacking on the corner as The Lions struggled to clear.
Sam Jones burst through behind the Aquaforce defence on fourteen minutes, just as he was about to pull the trigger an unfortunate collision between him and Ben Gathercole saw the visiting goalkeeper stretchered off – later confirmed both his knees had swelled up due to the impact.
Forward Joe Thornton donned the goalkeeper’s gloves and on came Shane Kelsey to replace him.
Matt Richards, a player with undoubted talent but a terrible injury record over recent years, pulled up on twenty three minutes as Jason Gregory entered the fray.
Sam Jones again beat the organised offside trap, Thornton proving equal to the well placed strike as The Ducks managed to clear the ball to safety.
Just after the half hour it was Lee Morris who the easiest effort of the day, finding space in the Heanor penalty area he nodded his free header in to Deakins hands.
Aquaforce were persistent throughout the first half, preventing Heanor getting in to any sort of attacking flow. Chris Shaw has been in impressive form since being made club captain in February, it was his weak pass to Ady Hawes that gave Gary Stohrer space to feed substitute Kelsey who made his finish look remarkably easy from a difficult position.
The half came to a close with a weak effort at goal from Sean Gregory, Thornton collected the ball with ease.

If the first half had been full of entertainment, the second half offered nothing to match it.
Five minute into the half Nick Hall made an uncharacteristic mistake, straying behind the rest of the Heanor back line to leave Lee Morris on side and clear to run at goal, his first time finish with the inside of the boot knocked the stuffing out The Lions as his side doubled the lead.
Both sides struggled to find any sort of attacking flow, the Heanor back line huffing and puffing as all clearances came straight back onto them.
The final goal came in the first minute of stoppage time with substitute Andrew Fox outmuscling Jason Gregory before stabbing past Deakin from six yards.

An overall disappointing result, albeit against a very good team who if they perform in the same manner over their remaining fixtures will be crowned NCEL Premier Division Champions.
