Morris Samuels Joins The Lions

Heanor Town are delighted to welcome Morris Samuels to the club. Morris will head the clubs Development section which contains the Under 16s, Under 18s, Under 19s and Reserves, his focus will be on working with the management of each team to provide a pathway for our thriving Junior section into the Development section and preparing the players for step 5 football. Morris is a former Ilkeston Town player and founder of the charity Unity which he set up to tackle gun crime in Nottingham, his charity work earned him an MBE from the Queen.

He said '' i have set up links to bring in the best young talent from both Derby and Nottingham but i am extremely keen to both provide a chance for local players from the Junior section to progress whilst trying to get some of the local lads that are good enough but are not playing for the club or not playing football at all back in a Heanor shirt. I have more spare time on my hands nowadays and it is important to reflect, i am honoured to have been given an MBE by the Queen and i decided i want to give something back to a few people that helped me in my life, during the 80's you wouldnt see many black people around the local area, as a troubled youngster and going down the wrong path, Geoff Clarence would drive to St Annes to fetch me, id play and hed drive me home to St Annes,he made a difference in my life which helped me make a difference in other peoples lives, we became family friends for decades and i will never forget what he did for me. I made the call to Glen and asked what i can do to help them both and im looking forward to the role at this fantastic club.''
