Lions lose to Barrow
By Heanor Town Football Club
Barrow Town 1-0 Heanor Town
The Lions suffered defeat at the hands of Barrow Town in a tight affair at Riverside Park.
As has been the fashion this season, Heanor started the game on the front foot and missed several good opportunities to take the lead.
Jamie Sleigh saw two efforts saved by the Barrow ‘keeper inside the first ten minutes before Sam Birks could only find the side netting when through one-on-one with Bradley Jones.
Barrow grew into the game and had the perfect opportunity to opening the scoring in the 22rd minute. Ben Gough produced a low save to deny James Parker and on the rebound, Danny Page was brought down by Oliver Pratt for a penalty. Up stepped Barrow skipper Anthony Marriott to take the spot kick but his effort was at a perfect height for the sprawling Gough who tipped the kick behind.
Barrow did take the lead shortly before half-time, however. Miscommunication in Heanor’s defence allowed Danny Page to steal the ball and roll it into the empty net.
The Lions almost responded immediately at the start of the second half. Sleigh’s dipping shot was expertly tipped over the crossbar by the unbeatable Jones.
Heanor rarely threatened after that and were lucky not to be two goals down late on when Zak Ginvert found himself in acres of space in the penalty area, but his shot smashed the crossbar and the Lions cleared.
