Lions' Surge Continues
By Heanor Town Football Club
Radford 1-4 Heanor Town
The Lions earned their third successive victory with a 4-1 win over a beleaguered Radford side.
As in previous games, Heanor started the game the brighter of the two sides and took the lead in the ninth minute when Sam Birks’ shot was tipped onto the post and Jamie Sleigh was alert to tap home the rebound.
Radford grew into the game and if it wasn’t for a late intervention by Max Thornberry they would have had a swift equaliser.
Wayne White’s involvement in the first half was increasing as he was forced to tip Scott Litchfield’s free-kick behind for a corner before denying the striker again moments before the break.
The Lions regrouped at the half and doubled their advantage in the 50th minute when Kyle Daley picked the ball up midway inside the Radford half, and drove at the defence before powering a shot past the ‘keeper.
Three minutes later, Daley scored what is possibly goal of the season. Jesse Vowles did well to beat the full-back and deliver a cross to the far post, where Daley was waiting and he hammered a volley into the top corner.
The game was sealed fifteen minutes from time when Jamie Sleigh notched his 28th goal in his 32nd appearance this season when his shot from the edge of the area found the corner.
The hosts did grab a consolation goal ten minutes from time when Conor Moore’s low free-kick beat White to be the first player to score against the Lions since 23rd February.
