Lions return to winning ways
By Heanor Town Football Club
Arnold Town 0-2 Heanor Town
The Lions snapped their losing streak with a straightforward victory at bottom-side Arnold Town.
The first half was a tepid affair with chances few and far between for both sides. Arnold's 'keeper pulled off a double save by first denying Jamie Sleigh before keeping out Rob Ritchie-Smith's shot as Heanor were beginning to force the issue.
Despite not registering a win all season Arnold were not out of the game and created chances of their own. Curtis Hodgkinson was called into action on his debut as he stopped Cameron Thurgood's effort after the full-back embarked on a mazy run.
It was Heanor, however, who broke the deadlock shortly before the interval. Ritchie-Smith's through ball found Sleigh and the Lions' top scorer found the bottom corner of the net.
Ritchie-Smith had the opportunity to doubled the lead soon after but he could only shoot over the bar from inside the area.
Heanor started the second half pushing for the killer goal. Sleigh's shot-on-the -turn was saved before the Lions forced a counter attack from an Arnold corner which led to Sleigh shooting wide after being played in by Sam Birks.
Kyle Daley and Birks had chances to make it 2-0 but the Lions were finding it difficult to put the game to bed.
Heanor were given a scare fifteen minuted from time when Gerardus Bos got in-behind the Lions' defence but he couldn't keep his effort down.
A minute later, the game was sealed. Kyle Daley was left unmarked at the far post and he converted to bring the three points back to the Town Ground.
Arnold pushed for a consolation goal but their efforts were in vain as the Lions picked up their first win in four games.
