Kimberley Miners Welfare 0-3 Heanor Town

Heanor Town made it seven wins in a row with an assured display over neighbours Kimberley Miners Welfare.

The game had an end-of-season feel towards it, with neither side competing for the top places in the East Midlands Counties League. The Lions offered more than the hosts and were worthy of the three points.

The game’s opening goal arrived with the game’s first real chance. Sam Birks delightfully collecting Rob Ritchie-Smith’s cross before beating a defender with ease and slotting into the bottom corner.

The contest was all but sealed shortly before the interval when Shaun Roulston was on-hand to nod home Ritchie-Smith’s inswinging free-kick.

Heanor had opportunities to seal the game in the second half but were unable to find that third goal. Jesse Vowles battled his way through the Kimberley defence before being fouled by skipper Conor Green, who was abruptly shown the red card for his troubled. Sam Birks stepped up, but substitute ‘keeper Charlie Mansfield guessed correctly and stopped Birks’ tame effort.

Birks and Kyle Daley had further chances finish the game and it was the latter who wrapped up the points in the 90th minute, when he found the bottom corner after being played in by Jesse Vowles.

The Lions’ surge towards the top four continues.
